Abstract

1493205 Ducted fans H R HILL 18 Feb 1976 [19 Feb 1975] 6948/75 Heading F1C In a lift/propulsion system for an air cushion vehicle a portion of the air sucked into the horizontal chamber 1 of a ducted fan is directed vertically downwards into a plenum chamber to provide lift, by a duct 6 having a circular intake symmetrically placed relative to the fan axis so that loading on the fan blocks is independent of their circumferential position, horizontal thrust being provided by the flow 4 of the remainder of the air. The intake to chamber 1 may be horizontal (as shown), oblique to the horizontal, Fig. 2 (not shown), or vertical, Fig. 3 (not shown).
