Abstract
586,600. Drying yarn. DEHN, F. B. (Smith, Drum, & Co.). June 30, 1944, No. 12503. [Class 34 (ii)] Apparatus for drying yarn in the form of packages 12 on perforated cores 13 comprises a cabinet 10 which is provided with an opening 46 for the supply of heated air from a blower 54, exhaust fans 41 and two opposed heating coils 30, and is adapted to receive a wheeled carrier 11 upon which the packages 12 are mounted. The carrier 11 is in the form of a rectangular manifold 14 which has an inlet 16 for engagement with the air supply opening 46 when in position in the cabinet and is fitted with rows of vertical spindles 21 which receive the packages 12 and are fluted &c. to permit air to flow longitudinally thereof, said spindles being disposed on both sides of a perforated tubular duct 18 which 'extends medially and longitudinally of the manifold 14 and is open at its upper end but closed at its lower end. The arrangement is such that, with the blower 54 and fans 41 in operation, heated air from the blower 54 will traverse the manifold 14 and spindles 21 and flow through the packages 12 and perforations 20 in the duct 18 to the casing 40 of the exhaust fans 41; simultaneously the fans will cause some of this air to be circulated through openings 43 in the casing 40 to passages 31, where it is combined with fresh air drawn in through ports 39 in the cabinet, before passing substantially horizontally through the heating coils 30 and externally of the packages back to the exhaust casing 40.
