Abstract

1,112,449. Tumbler driers. RADIATION Ltd. 21 Sept., 1966 [13 Oct., 1965], No. 43448/ 65. Heading F4G. A tuumler drier drum 1 mounted on a horizontal axis has spaced hollow ribs 2 with perforations towards the loading door for the passage of heated air into the drum by means of a fan 17 which draws the air through a perforated annular region 6 formed on the generally closed end of the drum and exhausts the majority of this air through a hollow supporting column 13 and a base duct 21. The column 13 carries a stub shaft 14 bearing the fan 17 and driving pulley 18 and also bears the drum via radial spider arms 12 on a stub shaft 10. Flanges 7 and 8 on the rear of the drum form an annular channel 9 containing heaters 20 which channel is concentric with the drum axis including the apertured area 6, and the column 13 also carries a part annular, axially open channel 19 concentric with the drum axis to overlap the channel 9. In use, air is drawn into the drum through apertures 4 in the drum wall after passing over the heaters 20 after being drawn from the drum interior through the gap between channels 9, 19, and also through a ring of apertures 4a provided in the closed end of the drum between the apertures 4. Additionally the channel 19 has apertures through which further air is drawn.
