Abstract

1461073 Drying washing COLSTON APPLIANCES Ltd 29 Aug 1974 [1 June 1973] 26255/73 Heading F4G A washing machine comprises an outer cabinet, a perforate drum 23 mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis in a tub 1, access to the drum being through a door 21 in the front of the cabinet. A heating unit including a motorized fan 15 and a heater is provided within the cabinet so that in use heated air can be ducted to the inner drum. The heater may comprise circuate elements mounted in an annular duct 4 (Fig. 2, not shown). Heated air in the duct 4 passes into the tub 1 through an aperture in a pressing 2, the aperture being closed by vanes during the washing phase of the machine. A seal 8 is provided between the drum 23 and the tub 1 so that heated air in the drum can pass through perforations 27 in the back wall thereof and through ducts 10 and 9 out of the machine. A vent 11 is provided in the duct 9 for directing the exhaust air forwardly or backwardly out of the machine. A lint filter 12 is mounted in the forward portion of the duct 9. The fan and the motor 26 for driving the drum are mounted on the tub to counter out of balance forces set up by the drum. The door 21 is double-glazed.
