740,859. Fibre drafting apparatus. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR, Ltd. Aug. 24, 1954 [Oct. 1, 1953], No. 20912/53. Class 120 (2): An apron drafting device in a spinning, roving or like frame has an apron driving roller in driving engagement with the apron in a zone between two drafting zones. In one embodiment, an apron driving roller 1 is located outside the apron 2 and bears upon the apron 2 across its full width while a spring-urged roller 6 presses the apron 2 against the roller 1 only between the paths of the fibres being drafted. A tensioning roller 5 holds the apron 2 against the roller 1 in the drafting zones. Self-weighted auxiliary control rollers may be applied along the drafting surfaces of the aprons and the roller 1 may be adjustable. If desired, the roller 6 may extend beneath the drafting zone and there be provided with reduced or resilient surfaces which exert light pressure on the apron. Alternatively, light pressure may be applied in this zone by a strip of spring steel or other suitable material. If the driving roller 1 be employed within the apron 2 with a pressure roller 6 of the same width as the apron, the roller 1 has a portion of increased diameter within an area clear of the drafting zones of the apron.
