Abstract

587,095. Sliver guides. MELLOWES & CO., Ltd., and COWAN, W. B. Jan. 3, 1945, No. 221. [Class 120 (i)] A fishtail funnel sliver guide is interposed between the front rollers of a drawing frame and the trumpet guide of a coiler can. The funnel guide is extended to enclose the mouth of the trumpet, which forms a bearing therefor, the guide being free to oscillate. The upper face of the guide may be transparent and may form a detachable or hinged cover. The guide consists of a funnel proper 1, a support 2, and a cover 3, the last two of which may be formed as a single member. The support 2 has a bearing knob 20 and a circular opening 11, and is rotatably located by the rim of the trumpet 13. The funnel 1 resting in the support 2 narrows towards the trumpet opening, but is flanged to conform with the shape of the cover 3. Funnel and support are tacked along abutting edges. The cover 3 is secured by a clip 23 and may embody a guide portion 26. When the funnel guide is used in conjunction with a trumpet having two holes for a divided sliver, the funnel is divided lengthwise to form twin passages, and a transverse member with two tapered holes is embodied, at the narrow end uf the funnel. The bearing knob 20 may be replaced by a ball or roller support. Funnel 1 and support 2 may be made of plastic or metal, and cover 3 of transparent plastic such as cellulose acetate or methylmethacrylate.
