Abstract
774,183. Fibre drawing machines ; sliver guides. LINEN INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Feb. 17, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 4876/54. Classes 120 (1) and 120 (2). A drawing frame for bast or other long staple fibres in which slivers pass through doubler plates from a pair of rollers, one of which is covered with resilient material, has means for keeping slivers in contact with the surface of the covered roller, for a distance greater than the length of the distorted peripheral surface of the roller at the nip. In one form, sliver passing between rollers 1, 7 passes over a lead-off member 11 consisting of a round bar adjustable in brackets 13 attached to a doubler plate 2. Alternatively, the doubler plate may be raised so that a separate lead-off member is not necessary. The resilient cover 8 is preferably more than a quarter inch thick. Instead of a resilient cover, an endless belt 23, Fig. 6, may be employed in conjunction with a lead-off member 11. According to the Provisional Specification, roller covers of natural or synthetic rubber having a hardness of less than 70 British Standard degrees may be used. Specification 696,893 is referred to.
