Abstract
A lubricating composition comprising a major proportion of a lubricating oil, and an oil-soluble metal mahogany sulphonate and an oil-soluble diester of a glycol or polyglycol and the trinier of ricinoleic acid. The sulphate may be an alkali metal sulphonate, especially sodium sulphonate. Esters referred to are esters of ethylene glycol and of polyethyleneglycols up to hexaethylene glycol, e.g. triethylene glycol. The lubricating oil may be a mineral oil. Optional additives referred to are antioxidants such as phenolic or amino compounds, for example 2, 6-di-i-butyl, 4-methyl phenol and a or b phenyl-naphthylamine. The compositions are compared with mineral oil compositions containing lauryl mercapto acetic acid with or without ethylene glycol ditriconoleate, and with zinc naphthenate.
