Abstract

A lubricant comprises a minor proportion (e.g. less than 10 per cent) of dehydroabietylamine, or salt thereof, dissolved or dispersed in a liquid lubricating oil. Salts mentioned are the stearate and naphthenate. Optional ingredients mentioned are detergents, particularly alkaline earth salts of petroleum sulphonic acids and/or sulphurized alkaline earth metal salts of phenols, e.g. sulphurized barium dialkyl phenol, pour point depressants, V.I. improvers, and dyes. In examples 2 per cent of dehydroabietylamine are added to a straight mineral oil and to a detergent oil.
