Abstract

659,365. SPIGERVERK, C. June 17, 1949, No. 16198. Convention date, June 17, 1948. [Class 38 (v) ] [Also in Groups XX and XXI] A warning device for a cooling-water system for transformers is characterized by an electric circuit in which the current has to flow through a compartment 2 in which the water-level depends upon the satisfactory operation of the cooling - water system, and having an electrode 7 one end of which is located in the compartment 2 and which is so arranged that it will be in contact with the water or not depending upon the waterlevel. The container 2 receives water from the cooling-system through pipe 1 and has a partition 4 provided with an opening 5 small enough to permit a build-up of water behind the partition during satisfactory operation of the system and with an overflow 6 for surplus water. A further partition 8 may be provided to reduce turbulence around the electrode 7. The electrode 7 is fed with alternating current from the secondary 10 of a transformer 9 and a relay 14 is associated with the secondary 10 so that it is operated when current flows in the electrode circuit. If no such current flows due to failure of the cooling water, or of the primary current supply, the armature 15 of the relay 14 drops and closes an alarm circuit 16.
