Abstract

1,096,154. Automatic conductivity control. B.C. HIGGINS. June 14, 1966, No.26402/66. Heading G3R. The mineral content of boiler water, e. g in an electrode boiler, is monitored by a conductivity probe (22) to open a blow-down valve (20) Fig. 1 (not shown) when an undesirable concentration is reached, until it is diluted to an acceptable value by make-up-water added by a conventional automatic level control. A proportional timer allows the blow-down valve to be opened in short bursts while the conductivity is too high to prevent roiling of the water. Circuit arrangement. As shown Fig. 2, the conductivity probe 22 is connected in an A. C. bridge whose output is coupled through an isolating transforms 44 to a contact voltmeter 46 which controls a repeater relay 50 (energized from transformer T 1 and rectifier) to intermittently energize the blow-down-valve-coil 34 over the contacts of timer motor M.
