Abstract
595,750. Indicating liquid-levels. HOLDEN, W. B., and CHANCELLOR, W. H. May 16, 1944, No. 9401. [Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] An electric system for controlling or indicating liquid-level, comprises a receptacle having an electrode energised by a transformer so that current flows through the liquid and a rectifier to energise a D.C, operating relay. The control or indicating circuit 2, 3 comprises a direct current relay 5 energised through a rectifier 8 from a mains energised transformer 1, the secondary circuit being completed through any number of electrodes 12, 13 in a receptacle 14 containing distilled water or other conducting liquid, the level of which is variable to control the circuit. Two-way switches 4, 9 both shown in the de-energised position, are operated by the relay 5. When the level of the liquid rises to the electrode 12, current passes through the rectifier, through contact 10 and operates the relay to engage, before leaving contact 10, a contact 11 connected to the electrode 13 which, being deeper in the liquid causes the relay to hold in firmly. The circuit 2, 3, may control a pump to reduce the liquid level in the container and when this falls below the electrode 13 the relay de-energises the circuit. A manually operated two-way switch 7 is connected so that, on reversal, the liquid level may be made to rise when the circuit is energised.
