Abstract
643,166. Elevated railways. KING, D. M. July 29, 1947, No. 20508. [Class 104 (ii)] A drop or transfer section 20 forming part of an overhead track system from which loadcarrying trolleys are suspended is arranged to be brought into register with an end of either of two fixed tracks or track sections such as 17, 18, to transfer a trolley or trolleys from one to the other, or to transfer trolleys between tracks at different levels, the track section 20 being attached to a frame 19 suspended by hoisting- cables 21 from a crab 11 which runs along a track 15 on a travelling crane or gantry 10 arranged to be traversed on girders 13 at its ends. Unwanted lateral or swinging movement of the section 20 is prevented during hoisting and lowering by providing its associated frame 19 with guide-wheels or rollers 23 which run in vertical channels 24 extending downwardly from the crab 11 to which they are rigidly attached at their upper ends. The ends of the tracks 17, 18, and of the section 20, are preferably provided with automatic stops to prevent over-running of trolleys thereon when the movable section 20 is out of register with a fixed section. The crab 11 is provided with a poweroperated winch or other hoisting mechanism.
