Abstract

1285950 Overhead cranes on container ships ALLIANCE MACHINE CO 2 Dec 1969 [17 July 1969] 58861/69 Heading B8B Two container ship cranes 14 may be married at 62 and operated in unison. Each crane 14 has a single main girder 18 transverse of the deck 11 and supported by legs 19 provided with driven wheels 20 on spaced apart trackways 15 adjacent each edge of the ship's deck 11. An extensible single girder 22 is mounted on the main girder 18 for movement from one extreme position where it extends over one side of the ship to an opposite extreme position where it extends over the opposite side of the ship. The extensible girder 22 is carried on the main girder 18 by a central support 23 and end supports 34. The support 23 is guided on the main girder 18 by wheels 26, 27, 28 engaging respective tracks 29, 30, 31 and carries a motor 32 driving a gear assembly 33 adapted to move along a rack 58 fixed along the main girder 18. A hoist 37 is mounted on the extensible girder 22 for movement therealong through movement of the extensible girder 22 by travel cables 52, 55, respectively, dead-ended on the hoist at 53, 56 and on the main girder 18 at 54, 57.
