An assembly crane for mine shaft hoisting appliances has a travelling crane which can be run along elevated rail, into the cage shaft framework this crane having a ackle which can be run off sideways onto elevated transverse side rails. A girder 3, over which a hoisting tackle 4 travels, is suspended from a carriage which travels along rails la secured to the top flanges of girders 1 which enter a hoisting gear framework 6. A skip A or B raised by the hoisting tackle 4 is removed from the frame 6 by the carriage 2 to a position where the tackle runway of girder 3 is aligned with a transverse elevated rail, 5, 5a, 5b or 5c and the tackle 4 may then be moved along one of such rails to a storage position for the skip A or B or over a railway siding 8. The carriage 2 may also carry a skip along the rail girders 1 to a position over a roadway 9. The girders 1 may be foldable upwards inside the framework 6 or insertable therein. Angles 10 suspended beneath the girders 1 prevent the tackle 4 running off the girder 3 during the travel of the carriage along the rails 1a. The girder 3 may be aligned with one of the transverse rails by hand or automatically, a luminous signal being provided to indicate alignment and a locking device may secure the girder in the aligned position.
