Abstract
618,635. Gas turbines. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Nov. 6, 1946, Nos. 32995 and 32996. Convention dates, Jan. 28, 1944. [Class 110 (iii)] The stator 130 and rotor 112 of a gas turbine are separately supported within a cylindridal housing 114. The front bearing is carried in a split end portion of the housing. The casing and the rear bearing support 122 are supported and positioned by sets of radial pins 116 and 128 which are slidingly supported in the housing. The pins 116 are screwed into bosses 136 on the casing and the pins 128 are screwed into radial arms 126 on the bearing support 122. Alternatively, the pins slide in the casing and bearing support and are flanged at their outer ends and held in place in the housing by cover plates. The nozzle box 138 is attached to the stator. The exhaust duct 140 is supported by the pins 128 which pass through holes in the duct wall and it is attached to the turbine outlet by an expansion joint 160. Cooling air passes between the housing and the turbine. Specification 617,828 is referred to.
