[Class 79 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXIII] An engine mounting comprises at each attachment point a bearer mounted in a spherical bearing g carried by a fixed portion of the structure, and a swinging cramp m having a wide base and an adjustable ball-ended bolt o at its upper end, while secured to the engine in a corresponding position is a cross piece w, Fig. 3, or s, Fig. 9, formed with a spherical cup y to receive the ball end of the bolt o. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement of four attached feet for an aero-engine in which the port rear foot a is fixed, the starboard rear foot b is capable of lateral but not fore-and-aft movement, and the front feet c, d, are capable of both lateral and fore-and-aft movement. The front mountings c are as shown in Fig. 3, a boss t bolted to the underside of each foot resting on the flat upper surface of the bearer j, to allow sliding movement in any direction. The mounting for the starboard rear foot b is shown in Fig. 5, a tapered spigot 23 below the foot engaging a tapered socket 21 in the bearer j, the socket being elongated in the lateral direction, while in the case of the mounting for the port rear foot a, shown in Fig. 9, the tapered spigot 26 engages a conical socket 25 in the bearer j. In both rear mountings the bearer is split along its transverse diameter. The form of cramp shown in Fig. 9, in which the bolt o is inclined to the vertical and engages with a projection 27 on the lower cross-piece s, is applicable where projections on the engine foot prevent the use of the C-shaped cramp shown in Figs. 3 and 5. Resilient strips v, r, may be provided at the lower and upper bearing surfaces of the engine feet.
