Abstract
632,813. Hinges. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd., TEARLE, A. G., and HARTOP, C. H. March 26, 1947, No. 8178. [Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A radio aerial mounting for use on motor vehicles comprises an insulated bracket or like member fixed to the vehicle, and a cap or ball member adapted to rotate relative to the bracket member and carrying a rod aerial. In one embodiment, Figs. 3, 4, the bracket member 2 is fitted to the vehicle roof 3 by means of a stud 4, the outer end of which is screwed into the part of the spindle 8 fitting into a horizontal recess in the bracket 2. The spindle 8 carries a rotatable cap 9 held in position by the head of the spindle and the compression spring 10. The lower end of the aerial rod 1 screws into a boss 11 on the cap 9. Depressions 14 in the cap 9 engage, under stress of spring 10, with studs 13 in the bracket 2 to maintain the aerial in selected positions. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the insulated socket member 2 is mounted on the side 3 of the vehicle. The aerial rod 1 fits into diametral holes in the ball member 18 and passes through a flared hole 15 in the head of the bolt 16 within a cylindrical recess in the ball member. The threaded end of the bolt 16 passes through the body panel of the vehicle and is held by means of the nut 6 and insulator washer 7. The aerial and ball member can thus rotate about the axis of the bolt 16 and to a limited extent about a horizontal axis perpendicular thereto.
