Abstract
647,562. Battery mounting. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd. March 11, 1948, No. 7448. [Class 79 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXVI] A retainer for boxes and like receptacles on a motor vehicle comprises a clamping bar of angle section which fits over an upper edge of the box and which is held under restraint at each end by a rod which lies within and divides the angle of the bar. As shown a battery 1 is held in position on a platform 3 of the vehicle scuttle 2 by the clamping bar 5 through the rods 6. A wing nut 10 for each rod 6 has diametric ridges 11 co-operating with the edge of the clamping bar and the other end of each rod passes through a slot in a bracket 7 secured to the scuttle and a resilient pad 9, rubber washer or spring is interposed between the bracket 7 and the rod 6. The rods can be hinged to the vehicle and to the clamping bar and a snap toggle mechanism or clasp can be substituted for each wing nut.
