[Class 79 (iii)] A mounting for the engine of a motor vehicle employing cushions of rubber or like resilient material, comprises fore and aft resilient positioning means in which the front positioning means includes, in addition to two lateral cushions formed solely of rubber or like resilient material and located tangentially to a circle centred on the engine oscillation axis, a third and central rubber or like cushion adapted mainly or in part to support the engine weight. Fig. 1 shows an engine A mounted on a rear cushion C and front cushions D, I. The positions of the cushions D are such that they lie on the circumference of a circle whose centre lies on the oscillation axis X-Y which passes through the centre of gravity O and the centre of the gear box. The construction of the front mountings is shown more clearly in Fig. 2, in which the side members B of the chassis are provided with brackets 3 with sloping faces 4 each bolted to another bracket 5. To this bracket is secured a rubber cushion 6 and a rubber buffer 7. Each side of the timing case 9 is provided with a boss 10 to which is bolted a bracket having faces 11 and 12, the former abutting the cushion 6 and the latter capable of contacting the buffer 7. The third central cushion 14 is secured to a chassis cross-member 2. The front of the engine is in no way secured to the cushions but merely rests upon them. In an alternative arrangement, the central cushion 14 may be raised. Specifications 643,071 and 643,074, [Group XXXII], are referred to.
