578,980. Metal framework for buildings. GROVES, W. E., and PHELPS, D. Aug. 10, 1944, No. 15205. [Class 20 (ii)] A metal framework for buildings comprises a number of main structural elements, each consisting of a pair of tubes W arranged parallel to each other and interconnected by a zig-zag metal bar K welded at intervals to the tubes, and spigot members for connecting the tubular elements together and/or to single tubular members such as tubes X, Y which are welded to a foundation plate A. In the framework shown, which forms a structure for supporting the outer walls, floors, ceiling, and roof of a building, the spigot members B, C, B<1>, C<1>, F, and J are of several different forms, according to the kind of joint for which each is required, each member having two or more reduced end portions adapted to fit into the ends of the tubes with which they connect. The spigot ends and the parts of the tubes into which they fit have holes bored therethrough which coincide when the parts are assembled, and enable them to be bolted together.
