Abstract

Class 20(4) In a metal window wall forming the facade of a building and comprising elements secured to the ceilings, 15, Fig. 6, of the building, each element comprises spaced intermediate hollow stanchions 3, Fig. 1, and hollow side stanchions 4a, 4b interconnected by hollow cross bars 5. The stanchions and cross bars are profile to form abutment faces for window sashes 1 and frames 2. The lower end of each of the intermediate stanchions is secured by screws 13, Fig. 6, to a strut 11 having a fish plate 20 bolted at 21, with a certain amount of play, between a pair of vertical bars 17 adjustably bolted to a T-piece 16 welded to the base plate 15 of the ceiling. The upper end of each of the intermediate stanchions is provided with a hollow member 22 screwed therein and projecting into the lower end of the next higher stanchion, gaps 29, 30 being provided to allow for vertical expansion. The side stanchion 4a, Fig. 5, is similarly secured to the ceiling base plate, and the other side stanchion 4b is provided with flanges 33a, 33b and 35 slidably engaging flanges 34, 36 on the stanchion 4a to allow for horizontal expansion. The side stanchions are also provided with vertical connecting members 31, 32 similar to those, 22, of the intermediate stanchions.
