Abstract
580,549. Steel beams. FINDLAY, G. K. Feb. 8, . 1944, No. 2338. [Class 20 (ii)] A steel beam comprises two main longitudinal units with a series of secondary units interposed between and connected as by welding, bolting &c.. to the main units to form a unitary element. The beam may comprise two channel-section longitudinals a, b, with their webs d, e, opposed, tubular members f being interposed between and welded, riveted or bolted to the longitudinals. The channel-section longitudinals may have flanges c parallel to the web. The secondary members f may be of square, polygonal or channel shape in cross section, and may be disposed at any angle to the longitudinals. They may, e.g., be at right angles to the longitudinals and protrude through the webs d, e and may then be utilized for the passage of heating pipes and electric cables &c. The ends of the longitudinals may be provided with additional plates i, k provided with holes for securing to concrete columns. Specification 569,503 is referred to.
