Abstract
567,848. Building - structure frameworks. HEAD, WRIGHTSON, & CO., Ltd., SCOTT, K. M., and ABISCH, O. May 28, 1943, No. 8585. [Class 20 (ii)] The vertical and horizontal structural members of a steel-framed multi-storey building are connected by prefabricated rolled steel components which are interposed in the run of the verticals and horizontals. The verticals 1, Fig. 1, composed of sections each of storey height are secured in the prefabricated components C to which the horizontals 3 also are rigidly connected. The prefabricated components comprise a horizontal limb of I-section having a web 4, Fig. 2, and flanges 5, 6 which extend beyond the web to receive the webs of the adjoining horizontal 3 to which they are riveted, bolted or welded, &c., a transverse stiffening plate 12 being welded at the end of the web 4. The other end of the horizontal limb is closed by a welded transverse stiffening plate 10 secured to a vertical plate 7 which, with a parallel plate 8 formed in halves welded to each other and to the flanges and web of the horizontal limb, receives the flanges 9 of the verticals 1, these verticals having closing plates 11 at their ends for connection to the flanges. 5, 6 of the horizontal limb. The plate 10 is in the same vertical line as the flanges at one side of the verticals. The prefabricated components may be made by welding plates together. The verticals are of constant width a throughout the structure, but may be of varying section appropriate to their loading on the particular storey at which they are positioned.
