Abstract

722,106. Hand-rails. WYNMALEN, H., and CHURCHILL, H. W. S. Oct. 22, 1952 [Nov. 8, 1951], No. 26166/51. Class 45. [Also in Groups X, XXI and XXVIII] Frameworks for railings, roof trusses, scaffolding &c. employ junction fittings A each consisting of plates a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP>, a<SP>3</SP> which are mutually at right angles and are used for the interconnection of standardised tubular, or solid rod elements B, B<SP>1</SP>. The tubular elements have internally threaded plugs P welded within their ends and the ends of the solid rod elements are provided with suitable coupling means to receive the ends of studs C<SP>1</SP> which are externally threaded at each end and have a central neck c adapted to fit in any of the holes H in a fitting A to join two coaxial elements thereto. Where it is desired to secure a single element to a plate a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP> or a<SP>3</SP> the end of the stud C projecting from the plate is fitted with a nut, alternatively a headed screw may be used. The structure is braced by elements D each of which is provided at each end with a sleeve S set at an angle of 45 degrees to the straight leg d of the element, each sleeve being adapted to fit over the end of an element B, or B<SP>1</SP>, and being set off centre from its associated leg d so that two oppositely inclined elements D, assembled in parallel planes, may cross. The structure shown in Fig. 4 illustrates how two elementary structures as shown in Fig. 1 can be connected by cross members B<SP>2</SP> and extra bracing elements D<SP>1</SP>, D<SP>2</SP>.
