Abstract

542,508. Lenses. TAYLOR, TAYLOR & HOBSON, Ltd., and WARMISHAM, A. July 12, 1940, No. 11603. [Class 97 (i)] In an objective comprising an asymmetrical divergent simple component behind two simple convergent components and in front of a third simple convergent component, the rear surface of the second component is convex towards the front and has a radius R, less than five times the equivalent focal length F of the objective, and the radius R. of the front surface of the divergent components is numerically greater than ten times F and is positive or negative. The radius R 4 is preferably greater than F, the radius R. of the divergent component is preferably less than one-tenth of R 5 , and the mean refractive index of the divergent component is preferably greater than 1.65. The glass of the third convergent component preferably has a mean refractive index greater than 1.62 and an AbbÚ V number less than 50. Data for two examples are set out.
