Abstract
547,739. Lenses. TAYLOR, TAYLOR & HOBSON, Ltd., and WARMISHAM, A. March 6, 1941, No. 3063. [Class 97 (i)] In an objective comprising two convergent meniscus components III, IV, one on each side of a diaphragm position, and between two divergent meniscus components I, II and V, VI, each consisting of a double concave element cemented to a double convex component, all airexposed surfaces being concave towards the diaphragm position, the differences between the mean refractive indices of the elements I and II and of V and VI lie between .04 and .09, the refractive indices of the elements I and VI lie between 1.63 and 1.75 and of the elements II and V between 1.56 and 1.68, and the radius R 8 lies between 1.1 and 1.8 times the radius R 3 . The sum of the radii R 3 and R 8 is preferably greater than .38 times the focal length of the objective. The refractive indices of the elements III and IV may be different, one being greater and the other less than that of the adjacent element II or V, and all the refractive indices may be greater than 1.62. Data for three examples are set out.
