Abstract

Printing; dye preparations.-In printing cotton or viscose materials with N : N1-dihydro-1 : 2 : 21 : 11 - dianthraquinoneazine or a halogen or hydroxy derivative thereof with the use of an alkali carbonate in the printing paste the depth and purity of the colouring are improved by incorporating in the paste a trialkyl-or triaralkyl-trimethylenetriamine, (cf. Specification 207,499, [Class 2 (iii)]). In examples, (1) a cotton or viscose cloth is printed with an aqueous paste containing Caledon blue R, British gum thickening, glycerol, sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate, potassium carbonate and triethyltrimethylenetriamine, dried, aged for 3-5 minutes, oxidized in sodium perborate solution, rinsed and soaped; (2) and (3) the goods are similarly printed with the use as dyestuff of chloro-N : N1 - dihydro - 1 : 2 : 21 : 11 - anthraquinoneazine and Caledon blue 3G respectively; (4) the goods are printed as in (1) with the use, as assistant, of triisopropyltrimethylenetriamine; (5) the goods are similarly printed with the use, as dyestuff, of Caledon blue 3G and, as assistant, of tribenzyltrimethylenetriamine; (6) the goods are similarly printed with the use, as dyestuff, of 3 : 31-dichloro - N : N1 - dihydro - 1 : 2 : 21 : 11 -dianthraquinoneazine and, as assistant, of trimethyltrimethylenetriamine; (7) a dyestuff preparation suitable for incorporation in a printing paste containing gum thickening, glycerol, sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate and potassium carbonate, is obtained by milling together an aqueous paste of Caledon brilliant blue R, Caledon blue GCP or Caledon brilliant blue 3GS, the sodium salt of naphthalene-formaldehyde-sulphonic acid condensation product, triethyltrimethylenetriamine and water.
