Abstract

Sulphur dye preparations for cotton-printing are made by pasting the dye with glycerine or another similar water-soluble alcohol, e.g. glycol, diethyleneglycol, thiodiglycol or thiodiglycerol, in the presence of water with the addition of a hydrotropic agent, which may be added before or after pasting the dye. The following hydrotropic agents are specified: urea, thiourea, alkali salts of ethylether sulphuric acid, glycerine oxyethylether, and sodium, potassium or ammonium salts of isovaleric, isobutyric, phenylacetic, benzoic, o-toluic, salicyclic, naphthoic, oxynaphthoic, benzene sulphonic, p-toluenesulphonic, naphthalenesulphonic, dialkylanilinesulphonic, benzylsulphanilic, dialkylaminonaphthalenesulphonic benzene- or naphthalene-sulphinic, cyclohexanecarboxylic, tetrahydronaphthalene-b -sulphonic or carboxylic, and aryloxyfatty acids, and of p-toluenesulphonyldiglycine. In examples, (1) the dyestuff obtained by sulphur fusion of carbozole-indophenol is pasted with glycerine and sodium tetrahydronaphthalene-b -sulphonate, (2) the product of example (1) is made into a printing paste with thiodiglycol, caustic soda, sodium carbonate, sodium benzylsulphanilate, sodium hydrosulphite, sodium formaldehyde-sulphoxylate, British gum and starch, printed on cotton, steamed, and developed in a potassium chromate-acetic acid bath, (3) the product of example (1) is made into a printing paste with potassium carbonate, sodium formaldehyde-sulphoxylate, gum, tragacanth and starch, printed on cotton and developed as in example (2), and (4) Indocarbon CL is pasted with glycerine and sodium tetrahydronaphthalene-b -sulphonate; the product may be made into a printing paste by addition of thiodiglycol, caustic soda, sodium carbonate, sodium benzylsulphanilate, glucose, sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate, gum and starch.
