Abstract

Dye preparations; printing.-Preparations for use in cotton printing are made by adding an alkali salt of a carboxylic or oxycarboxylic acid of benzene or a homologue thereof to a paste containing a vat dye and glycerine or other water-soluble alcohol, or to a powder containing a vat dye and sodium carbonate. The sodium salts of benzoic, salicylic, o-cresotinic, and o-toluylic acids are specified, and in examples, one of these salts is added to a paste containing glycerine and 6 : 61-dichlor-4 : 41-dimethylthioindigo, Caledon jade green, or the dyestuff made by condensing the sodium salt of perylenetetracarboxylic acid with p-anisidine by the process of Specification 201,786, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]. The preparations thus obtained are mixed with a thickening containing wheat starch, British gum, glycerine, potash and sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate, with or without tragacanth and sodium benzylaniline sulphonate, and used for printing cotton by the usual processes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 17437/11, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.].
