Abstract

Printing.-Chrome printing dyestuffs, other than chromium complex compounds and alizarin mordant dyestuffs, are incorporated in textile printing pastes with chrome mordants and gum senegal or gum arabic with an addition of 3 per cent or less of succinic acid or a water-soluble salt, e.g. an ammonium or monoethanolamine salt, of succinic or phthalic acid. Such an addition prevents coagulation of the gum and results in a softer print. In examples: (1) textile material, e.g. silk or wool, is printed with an aqueous paste containing the sodium salt of o-sulphohydroxydimethylfuchsondicarboxylic acid, chromium acetate, gum senegal and ammonium succinate, dried, steamed and soaped to obtain a soft blue print; (2) the dyestuff in (1) is replaced by the sodium salt of 2 : 21 - disulphodiphenyldisazo - bis - salicylic acid and the ammonium succinate by ammonium phthalate to obtain a soft yellow print.
