Abstract

Printing; dye preparations.-An alkylated aminocarboxylic acid of the benzene series or a salt thereof is incorporated in a printing paste, or in a dyestuff preparation suitable for making such a paste wherein the dyestuff used is one which is applied in the form of its leuco compound or in conjunction with a reducing agent, e.g. a vat or sulphur dyestuff. Thus, mono- or di-methyl- or mono-or di-ethyl-aniline-2-, 3- or 4-carboxylic acids or nuclear substitution products thereof or their sodium, potassium, ammonium, or ethanolamine salts may be used with or without a heavy metal salt, e.g. tin chloride, ferric chloride, copper sulphate or chloride, serving as catalyst for the oxidation. The printing-pastes or dye preparations may contain in addition the usual assistants such as water-soluble alcohols, hydrotropic agents, reduction catalysts, reducing agents and/or alkalies. In examples: (1) a powder suitable for making a printing paste is obtained by mixing a press cake containing Cibanone blue GCD, Ciba brown G, Cibanone blue 3G, Ciba blue 2B or Cibanone violet R with sulphite cellulose lye, potassium p-diethylaminobenzoate and glucose and drying and grinding the mixture; there may also be incorporated assistants such as urea, dimethylmetanilic acid, benzylanilinesulphonic acid, propylated or butylated naphthalenesulphonic acids, carboxylic esters of sulphophthalic acid, sulphoricinates, anthraquinone, hydroxyanthraquinones, sodium hydrosulphite or sulphoxylates; (2) the powder obtained in example (1) is incorporated in an aqueous paste containing wheat starch thickening, tragacanth, British gum, potash, glycerol and sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate, the paste is printed on cotton and the print is steamed, washed and soaped.
