Abstract

Mordant dyes, dyeing with; printing.--In the production of fast dyeings or printings on animal fibres, e.g. wool or silk, by means of acid mordant dyestuffs, the fibrous material is padded or printed with a preparation containing at least 4 per cent of a non-volatile organic carboxylic acid or a compound thereof which dissociates easily during steaming, and thereafter is subjected to a short steaming. Specified acids are oxalic, tartaric, citric and adipic acids and specified dissociable compounds thereof are the ammonium and chromium salts. Urea or thiourea is preferably added to the printing paste or padding solution. The prints obtained are fuller and of improved fastness to rubbing. In examples, woollen material is printed with an aqueous paste containing: (1) New chromazurine HB (cf. Specification 301,329, [Class 15 (ii)], Example 1); (2) Chromocitronin R; (3) Chromorhodin R in each case with urea, tragacanth thickening, ammonium oxalate and chromium acetate; (4) Chromocitronin R with tragacanth thickening, ammonium tartrate and chromium acetate; (5) Chromocitronin R with urea, tragacanth thickening, ammonium oxalate and chromium tartrate, and the printed material is dried, steamed for 8 minutes, washed and dried to obtain intense blue, yellow or rose prints fast to rubbing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also further examples relating to the use of an aqueous printing paste containing New Chromazurine HB with urea, tragacanth thickening, tartaric acid and chromium acetate and of an aqueous padding solution containing New chromazurine HB, with urea, tragacanth thickening, ammonium oxalate chromium acetate and sodium 1-isopropylnaphthalene-4-sulphonate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
