Abstract
Ethylene oxide is produced by the reaction of ethylene with oxygen and water in the presence of a catalyst consisting of silver containing small proportions of gold, copper or iron at 150--400 DEG C. A catalyst containing silver, gold, copper, and iron may be employed. Carbon dioxide may be added to the gas mixture, and the reaction may be effected under reduced pressure.
