Abstract

Alkali metal chlorites are prepared by reacting chlorine dioxide in the presence of water with alkali metal amalgam of low alkali metal concentration, e.g. less than 1 per cent, and preferably in slight excess, e.g. 5 per cent, with respect to the chlorine dioxide. Sodium and potassium amalgams are indicated. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 is not limited to the production of alkali metal chlorites. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
