Abstract
Glycol is produced by the reaction of ethylene, oxygen, and water in presence of iodine or a substance capable of liberating iodine such as hydriodic acid, ethylene iodide, potassium tri-iodide and ferric iodide, and preferably also in presence of an oxygen carrier such as an iron or manganese salt. The reaction may be effected under pressure in a closed vessel at 50 DEG C.
