Abstract

402,667. Pipe joints. HARRISON, C., 615, Hastings Street, Vancouver, Canada. April 26, 1933, No. 12204. [Class 99 (i).] A hose coupling comprises a tapered nipple 2 which is inserted in the end of the hose somewhat further than its total length so as to leave a projecting portion 6 of the hose to serve as a washer, the diameter of the nipple at one end being equal to the inner diameter of the hose, and a split ring 21 which is contracted on to the hose by a coupling nut 9 having a conical wall 13. The ring may be in two or more parts expanded by a spring 24 and is carried in a recess 12 in the nut. In connecting two hose pipes, the other hose has a similar nipple 2, the nut screwing on to a sleeve 17 having its inner tapered surface provided with axial or spiral grooves.
