Abstract

479,296. Pipe joints. SHARPE, H. Aug. 5, 1936, No. 21573. [Class 99 (i)] Pipe ends 4, 5 are expanded to fit internally recessed tubular sleeves 1, 2 and flanged over the ends of the sleeves, a tubular nut 3 engaging a shoulder on one sleeve and engaging a thread on the other sleeve, urging the pipe ends against the central flange of a ferrule 6 placed between the pipe ends and causing an annular rib on each face of the flange to embed itself in the adjacent pipe end. In a modification, two nuts 3, one engaging a shoulder on the sleeve on each pipe end, screw on to a connecting member 6 provided with tubular projections and annular ribs 7 so that each pipe end is forced over a rib.
