376,606. Coke ovens. GROVES, W. W., 30, Southampton Buildings, London. -(Otto & Co. Ges., Dr. C., 9, Christstrasse, Bochum, Germany.) Nov. 9, 1931, No. 31040. [Class 55 (i).] Chamber ovens for gas making are connected at one end by ascension pipes c with an hydraulic main d, and at the other end have tubes e leading to a collecting passage f, so that the pressure in the chambers at different stages is equalized by part of the gases in the earlier carbonizing stages passing through the passages into those chambers which are in the later carbonizing stages, and in which the evolution of gas is not so rapid. The tubes e can be shut off by covers g so as to isolate one or more ovens.
