Abstract
428,268. Carbonizing-apparatus. GAS CHAMBERS & COKE OVENS, Ltd., and RITSON, F., Artillery House, Artillery Row, Victoria Street, London. Sept. 22, 1934, No. 27282. [Class 51 (ii)] In a coke oven, retort, or like setting, the tie-rods a connecting the vertical buckstays h are hollow and are cooled by the passage of air both through and around them. Each tie-rod is enclosed in a tube d of heat-insulating material embedded in the brickwork g of the setting and of sufficient diameter to provide an annular space c for the passage of cooling air around the rod. The air may be supplied to the rod a and space c under pressure or may be induced from the atmosphere by leaving one end open and providing, at the other end, connections e to a source of draught such as an exhaust fan, a waste gas flue, or the chimney stack f.
