Jan. 3, 1929, (Convention date]. i Producers.-In a carburetted water gas set, oil is cracked or vaporized in the carburettor and superheater and the gaseous products are passed through the generator, tar being recovered from these products before and after their passage through the fuel bed, and the tar recovered at each stage preferably being kept separate. The plant comprises a generator 1, carburettor 2, superheater 3, wash box 4, condenser 5, wash box 6, and condenser 7. Primary air is supplied through conduit 9, secondary air through 13, steam through pipe 10 or 11, or for back running through pipe 12, and oil through pipe 27. After the usual blow, the stack valve 29 is closed and an up-run made, the water gas passing through the wash box 4, condenser 5, and connections 19, 21 to storage, or a down run may be made. Oil is then vaporized in the carburettor, and the oil vapours and gas passed through the superheater, steam being admitted through pipe 28 to assist in carrying along the oil gas, which passes through wash box 4 and condenser 5, where some tar and light oils are removed. The oil gas is then passed by pipes 19, 23 through the generator, from which the " reformed " oil gas passes by connection 32 to the wash box 6 and condenser 7 where further tar and light oils are collected. The condenser 5 may be bye-passed by connection 30. In a modified apparatus, one wash box and condenser only are employed, and in this case the tar and oils condensed at each stage are collected together.
