Abstract

344,742. Carburetted water-gas. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd., Humglas House, Carlisle Place, London.-(Assignees of Perry, J. A. ; Broad Street, Phila. delphia, U.S.A.) June 19, 1930, No. 18748. Convention date, July 27, 1929. [Class 55 (i).] In the manufacture of mixed oil gas and water gas in apparatus comprising two generators and a superheater, after blasting both fuel beds, oil is supplied above and steam below one fuel bed, and the mixture of water gas, oil gas and undecomposed steam is passed in part through the other fuel bed and in part through the superheater. The apparatus comprises two generators 1, 2, and a superheater 19, air blast pipes 7, 8, and steam pipes 9, 10 at the bottom of the generators, secondary air pipes 11, 12 oil supply pipes 16, 17, and steam pipes 13, 14, 15, a conduit 18 connecting the gas spaces of the generators. The fuel beds are blasted simultaneously, the blast gases being burned to heat the spaces 4, 6 and passed through the superheater. Oil is then admitted to generator 2, for instance, and steam through pipe 10, the oil being vaporized and coke deposited on the fuel bed, and the mixed oil gas and water gas are passed partly through the superheater to the outlet 26, and partly through the fuel bed in generator 1 to the outlet 33, and storage where they may be mixed with the gases from the superheater. This process is then reversed, steam being supplied to generator 1 and the gases passed partly through generator 2 and partly through the superheater, the coke residues from cracking the oil being deposited in fuel bed 5. Steam from pipe 15 is then passed through the superheater 19 and through both fuel beds to generate water gas from the carbon deposited from the oil. In a modified method steam is supplied below one fuel bed on to which oil is sprayed and some steam is supplied below the other, the mixed gases passing through the superheater; the steam supply is then increased and the water gas passed through the generator to which oil was supplied, this process being then reversed.
