Abstract
354,650. Water gas generation. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd., Humglas House, Carlisle Place, London.-(Assignees of Perry, J. A. ; Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Nov. 13, 1930, No. 34177. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1929. [Class 55 (i).] In the manufacture of mixed hydrocarbon gas and water gas in which reformed hydrocarbon gas is produced by cracking hydrocarbon gas from an extraneous source in an ignited fuel bed and water gas is produced by steaming the fuel bed, the gases are passed through a carburetter wherein the reformed gas is carburetted with oil. Stiff pitch from the hydrocarbon gas is mixed with fluid tar from the carburetting oil which mixture is easily removable from the washboxes &c. The fuel bed 5 is blasted with air supplied at 6 and the resulting gases pass through the carburetter 2 and superheater 3 where they are burnt with air supplied at 15, before passing to the atmosphere at 20. Steam is admitted to the fuel bed through 7, the water gas passing through vessels 2, 3 to the washbox 4. Simultaneously, oil is admitted through 17 to the carburetter and is vaporized therein. The carburetted water gas passes through the washbox to storage, tar being condensed in the washbox. Hydrocarbon gas is now introduced to the fuel bed alternately at 9, 10, and passed alternately up and down through the fuel, the reformed gas passing to the carburetter where oil is again admitted. The gas then passes to the washbox wherein pitch is condensed and finally to storage. After a short up-run with steam the cycle is repeated.
