Abstract

June 7, 1928, [Convention date]. illotor power plant.-In a high-pressure steam power plant in which a reciprocating engine is placed in front of a turbine receiving its exhaust, the reciprocating engine is arranged to drive a compressor, and the compressod medium is used in a turbine which may be coupled to the lowpressure turbine or to its generator.. In the arrangement shown in the Figure, the medium compressed is steam drawn from an intermediate stage of the exhaust turbine 3, and returned after compression, to the first stage of the turbine. The reciprocating engine 2: is of the floating piston type, steam being admitted to the pistons 6, 7 from a boiler 1 by pipes 4, 5. Steam to be compressed is introduced by pipes 10, 11 to the cylinders of the compressing pistons 8, 9, and is forced into the exhaust pipe 12 of the steam engine, and then passes to the turbine. A regulating cam disc 13 is provided. The steam to be compressed may be withdrawn from an accumulator or from a heating system &c. The reciprocating engine may be arranged so that expansion of the high-pressure steam and compression of the used steam may take place in the same cylinder.
