Power-generating systems.-In systems of the kind described in the parent Specification wherein accumulators containing heated liquid are arranged in the high and low pressure mains between the compressor d driven by the internalcombustion engine e and the steam engine (reciprocating engine or turbine) a giving out power, the accumulator i in the high-pressure main f is arranged as a shunt connected thereto through valves l, m and is provided with a superheater k, and a cooler q is arranged as a shunt around the low-pressure accumulator c and is connected to the main b by valves #. In operation, if both valves l, m are closed, the compressed steam passes directly to the engine a. If valve m is closed and valve l opened, the accumulator i is charged until the pressure therein is equal to that in the main f. If valve m is open and valve l closed, the accumulator supplies steam to the engine when the engine's demand exceeds the compressor's supply. The steam from the accumulator i may pass through a superheater k heated by the exhaust gases from engine e or otherwise. If the steam leaving the engine is very wet, it is passed through the coil q wherein it may be heated by hot air heated by the gases from the engine e or otherwise. The various valves may be interconnected, and may be operated by the differences in pressure existing in the system.
