Tesla Diner Nears Completion In LA

Elon Musk aims to give Tesla customers options for killing time during the charging process. It'll also be a new source of revenue for the automaker's founder.

A futuristic Tesla Supercharging station in Los Angels will include a 24-hour diner and drive-in theater.

“The dirt lot where construction began last September now hosts what appears to be a two-story building with a shiny metallic exterior,” according to Business Insider. “Former Tesla employee Alex Ingram also shared footage of construction efforts in April when he was the company's chief designer.”

The company has remained tight-lipped on the project, but Bloomberg previously reported that the site will be a Supercharging station with 28 stalls and two movie screens that can accommodate over 200 people. The screens will show films that last 15 to 30 minutes, about how long it takes to charge a Tesla vehicle.

“Offering charging at restaurants is not a new concept,” notes Yahoo Finance. “Last year, Subway sandwich shops announced plans to roll out Subway Oasis charging parks with canopies, chargers and picnic tables. Starbucks continues to expand its charging options with plans to add 100 new charging stations, bringing its total to over 1,000. There are also charging stations at movie theaters like Cinemark.”

Tesla filed an application with the US Trademark Office to use the brand in restaurant services in 2021 but did not submit plans for a 24-hour Supercharging station to Los Angeles officials until 2022.

“The Diner’s location will be at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, according to PropertyShark data," reports TechCrunch. “The property is classed as a one-story restaurant/cocktail lounge/tavern, but videos detailing construction on the site appear to show a two-story building.”

The company, which posted drawings of the project during an investor day presentation, has begun to advertise for employees.

Tesla is seeking a Tesla Diner Experience Specialist with a salary range of $83,600 to $285,000.

The employee will work with the charging operations team to ensure “exceptional customer experience at the Tesla Diner,” according to a job posting on LinkedIn, first spotted by the blog Drive Tesla Canada.

“Seeking an individual who is passionate about providing unparalleled and immersive customer experience for charging and dining,” the posting reads.

“While the job posting doesn’t indicate when Tesla plans to open the diner, the fact the job has been published is a good sign it is not too far away,” per Drive Tesla Canada. “But there is still a lot of construction work left to do.”
