About this audiobook

"Mysteries drive this satisfyingly twisty tale by Hepworth, whose work may remind you of Liane Moriarty's...the effect is amplified by the talented cast, which includes Caroline Lee, who narrates Moriarty's audiobooks." -- The Providence Journal

Sally Hepworth, the newest breakout star of domestic suspense, delivers her next twisty novel about family secrets and lies in The Younger Wife.

Stephen Aston is getting married again. The only problem is, he's still married to his first wife, even though she is in a care facility for dementia. But he'll take care of that easily, by divorcing her—even if his adult daughters protest.

Tully and Rachel Aston look upon Heather as nothing but an interloper. Heather is the same age as Rachel and even younger than Tully. Clearly she's a golddigger and after their father's money. Heather has secrets that she's keeping close, and reasons of her own for wanting to marry Stephen.

With their mother unable to speak for herself, Tully and Rachel are determined to get to the truth about their family's secrets, the new wife closing in, and who their father really is. But will getting to the truth unleash the most dangerous impulses...in all of them?

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a great book with a satisfying ending. Some readers found the pace to be slow and didn't enjoy the back-and-forth between the wedding and the backstory. However, the chapters ended with great suspense points. The characters are realistic and flawed, and the story touches on mental health and the negative impact of Covid. Despite some underwhelming aspects, overall it is a decent read that holds the reader's attention.

Sally Hepworth's books for me are like candy; I just can't get enough of them. This story is part mystery and part family drama. The characters are very realistic and quite flawed. I loved the sisters and the "younger wife". Despite Stephen being a complete and total tool, there was some good that came from the story for the women in his life. The book also touched on mental health and the negative impact of the Covid debacle. Personally it seems the pi$$ poor way Covid was handled really was bad for people's mental health and a tiny part of this story touched on how it impacted one of the character's financially. Mental health is going to be a lasting issue in every country and writing about characters getting proper mental health care takes away some of the stigma. This was my third book by this author and she definitely is a new favorite for my reading list.

I listened to this while doing yard work. The pace was kinda slow; I’m not sure I could have just sat and listened to it like I can some books. The going back and forth between the wedding and the building of the backstory was unnecessary. I will say the chapters ended at great suspense points!
