About this audiobook

The McBrides are back in this small town romance from New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Ryan, and this time there's a new sheriff in Fallbrook!

Jessie Thompson had one hell of a week. Dylan McBride, the boy she loved, skipped town without a word after a magical prom night together. So when her father tried to kill her in a drunken rage, she fled Fallbrook, vowing never to return. Eight years later, her father is dead, and Jessie reluctantly goes home—only to come face-to-face with the man who shattered her heart. A man who, for nearly a decade, believed her to be dead.

Dylan accepted the position as sheriff of Fallbrook looking for a fresh start and a chance to uncover the truth about Jessie’s disappearance. He knew he’d have to face a few ghosts . . . he just never thought one would be Jessie, all grown up, stunning . . . and alive.

The pull between them is instant, but Dylan’s heart has already mourned Jessie, and she has secrets she can never share. Can they escape the darkness of their past for a second chance at a future together?

The characters and plot were good but way too much repetitive introspection really slowed the pace. And several of the things that happened were ridiculous, leaving me shaking my head. Having a twenty minute fight with his parents in the hospital while Jesse, Greg, and Will all sat around, not to mention the rest of the hospital staff, listening. Way too much talking at that point when he should have just kicked his parents out so Jesse could rest. And the later arrest, really?? Could have been an amazing book but fell short.

One of it not the best Jennifer Ryan s books. I cried so much but loved how they overcome everything to have a happy ending.

This was a good series. I think it would have been better if someone else read the books. My mind was hearing a voice associated with gangster s and crime.

This is the last of my month long Jennifer Ryan reading marathon and what a great one to end with. Dylan McBride returned to Fallbrook after serving in the military and working in law enforcement in Atlanta. He has never forgotten what he left behind but there is no hope of ever having it again or so he thought.

After another devastating beating at the hands of her father, Jessie Thompson leaves Fallbrook at the age of 15. Beaten, pregnant, and alone she is determined to make it on her own. After Dylan left without a word there really isn't anything left for her in Fallbrook so she vowed to never return. She stuck with that until her father died. When she does return and faces the past, her life is changed in ways she never expected.

This is a fabulous story of two people finding their way back to each other and forging a life together regardless of their past. It's wonderfully written and a story you don't want to miss. I highly recommend it.
