In this article, we propose a compact cpw-fed ultra-wideband
(UWB) antenna with dual band-notched characteristics. The dual
band-notched are achieved by using two stepped impedance resonators.
The measured results show that the proposed antenna has an impedance
bandwidth from 2.97 to 10.7 GHz (113%), defined by VSWR<2, with
two notched bands, covering all the WiMAX (3.3–3.6 GHz), WLAN (5.2–
5.8 GHz), the antenna has a small size (20 3 20 3 1.6 mm3), and
almost stable omnidirectional radiation pattern. The proposed antenna
is designed, simulated, fabricated, and tested, and the measured results
are in good agreement with the simulations.

Microstrip antenna is broadly used in the modern communication system due to its significant features such as light weight, inexpensive, low profile, and ease of integration with radio frequency devices. The fractal shape is applied in antenna geometry to obtain the ultra-wideband antennas. In this paper, the sierpinski carpet fractal monopole antenna (SCFMA) is developed for base case, first iteration and second iteration to obtain the wideband based on its space filling and self-similar characteristics. The dimension of the monopole patch size is optimized to minimize the overall dimension of the fractal antenna. Moreover, the optimized planar structure is proposed using the microstrip line feed. The monopole antenna is mounted on the FR4 substrate with the thickness of 1.6 mm with loss tangent of 0.02 and relative permittivity of 4.4. The performance of this SCFMA is analyzed in terms of area, bandwidth, return loss, voltage standing wave ratio, radiation pattern and gain. The proposed fractal antenna achieves three different bandwidth ranges such as 2.6-4.0 GHz, 2.5-4.3 GHz and 2.4-4.4 GHz for base case, first and second iteration respectively. The proposed SCFMA is compared with existing fractal antennas to prove the efficiency of the SCFMA design. The area of the SCFMA is 25×20 2 , which is less when compared to the existing fractal antennas.

—A novel printed star-triangular fractal microstrip-fed monopole antenna with semielliptical ground plane is presented for super-wideband (SWB) applications. In comparison to the previous SWB and fractal antennas, the antenna dimension has a compact size of mm. The antenna operates over the frequency band between 1–30 GHz for VSWR 2. The design process of the proposed structure for improving of the impedance bandwidth and measured results has been presented and discussed. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement.

A compact multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with very high isolation is proposed for ultrawideband (UWB) applications. The antenna with a compact size of 30.1 × 20.5 mm 2 (0.31λ 0 × 0.21λ 0) consists of two planar-monopole antenna elements. It is found that isolation of more than 25 dB can be achieved between two parallel monopole antenna elements. For the low-frequency isolation, an efficient technique of bending the feed-line and applying a new protruded ground is introduced. To increase isolation, a design based on suppressing surface wave, near-field, and far-field coupling is applied. The simulation and measurement results of the proposed antenna with the good agreement are presented and show a bandwidth with S 11 ≤ −10 dB, S 12 ≤ −25 dB ranged from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz making the proposed antenna a good candidate for UWB MIMO systems.

An E-shaped printed monopole antenna with loaded resonant elements suitable for penta-band multi-input multi-output (MIMO) application is proposed. The simple E-shaped monopole antenna results in a single resonance, and by loading the vertical arm of the antenna with narrow slots and stubs, a multi-band antenna can be obtained. The slots so placed on the antenna create L-shaped resonance paths which are multiples of λ g /4, and stubs resonate at λ g /4. The antenna is designed for operation over the UMTS, WiMAX and WLAN frequencies 2.1, 2.5, 3.5, 5.2, 5.8 GHz. A two element array of such antennas with close spacing of λ g /15 is suitable for MIMO application. The array has low mutual coupling, low envelope correlation, high efficiency and good radiation patterns over all five frequency bands. Simulation and measurement results are compared and discussed.

This paper comes with a new dual-band planar monopole antenna fed by Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) line designed for RFID readers and it operates at 2.45 GHz, 5.80 GHz. This antenna is designed with reasonable gain, low profile and low cost production. The designed antenna based on theoretical equations is simulated and validated by using ADS from Agilent technologies and CST Microwave Studio electromagnetic solvers. A parametric study of the proposed antenna has been carried out by optimizing some critical parameters. The antenna has a total area of 35×38 mm2 and mounted on an FR4 substrate with dielectric permittivity constant 4.4 and thickness of 1.6 mm and loss tangent 0.025. The comparison between simulation and measurement results permits to validate the final achieved antenna structure in the desired RFID frequencies bands. Details of the proposed antenna design and both simulated and experimental results are described and discussed. 1. INTRODUCTION Nowadays radiofrequency identification (RFID) has been deployed in a wide range of applications such as logistics, intelligent trace, asset tracking, electronic passports and tale health, for these reasons RFID has become more popular and gained much interest [1], [2]. An RFID system is basically composed of two principal elements; a tag, comprising an antenna and a microchip circuit which is remotely interrogated and supplied by a reader responsible for gathering all the information from the detected tags. The tags use the backscattering modulation technique to communicate their data to the reader based on a magnetic or electromagnetic coupling. The block diagram of an RFID system is illustrated in Figure 1 [3]. Several frequency bandshave been assigned to the RFID technology such as the Low frequency (LF, 125,134 kHz) and high-frequency (HF, 13.56 MHz) applications are most matured and worldwide accepted. These applications are based on magnetic flux coupling between the reader's and tag's coils. RFID systems at Ultra-high frequency (UHF, 860; 960 MHz) and microwave (2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz) offer a communication link at longer distance with high data rates [4]. Recently, monopole antennas have found widespread applications in wireless mobile communication systems such as RFID systems.The CPW is the feeding which side-plane conductor is ground and center strip carries the signal [5]. A triple-band multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna is presented.The proposed antenna consists of a C-shaped monopole antenna that provides dual-band resonant antenna. By protruding an L-shaped parasitic strip on the ground plane, a third band as well as enhancement of the isolation between two ports in MIMO array is achieved. The proposed antenna can cover 2.1–2.6, 3.3–4, and 5.4–6 GHz, which are allocated for WLAN and WiMAX applications. The proposed triple-band antenna structure is used in different two-element MIMO arrays. Simulation results show that the S11, S12, and S22 of the MIMO arrays are independent of the position of the two-element. The results show good S-parameters, high peak gain and radiation efficiency, and stable radiation patterns among the triple-band coverage. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Measured and simulated results show the effect of tapering of the SRR layer on bandwidth improvement and gain enhancement in comparison to monopole with SRR antenna. The CPW fed SRR loaded monopole antenna has a bidirectional pattern with high gain for wireless communication applications.

ABSTRACT In this paper, a co-design methodology and the effect of antenna miniaturization in an impulse UWB system/transceiver is presented. Modified small-size printed tapered monopole antennas (PTMA) are designed in different scaling sizes. In order to evaluate the performance and functionality of these antennas, the effect of each antenna is studied in a given impulse UWB system. The UWB system includes an impulse UWB transmitter and two kinds of UWB receivers are considered, one based on correlation detection and one on energy detection schemes. A tunable low-power Impulse UWB transmitter is designed and the benefit of co-designing it with the PTMA antenna is investigated for the 3.1---10.6 GHz band. A comparison is given between a 50$$\Omega $$ design and a co-designed version. Our antenna/transceiver co-design methodology shows improvement in both transmitter efficiency and whole system performance. The simulation results show that the PTMA antenna and its miniaturized geometries are suitable for UWB applications.

A new design of wideband microstrip antenna, where slots are placed on structure, is proposed. Also, a newly structure of a monopole antenna based on the noches form is designed using the HFSS. It has been found that the characteristics of new microstrip antenna are comparable to the conventional patch antennas, whereas its gain, directivity, and radiating efficiency are remarkably improved which make it to be useful in RFID chipless applications. The proposed antenna operates from 11.45 to 13.28 GHz, and 14.61 to 19.55 GHz can be used in RFID chipless applications, and it has a bandwidth about 677 MHz. The return loss of the proposed antenna is indeed below -10 dB. Prototype for all antennas are fabricated and measured and a good agreement between the measured and simulated results is achieved.

This paper presented the microstrip-fed circular disc monopole antenna with defected waveguide structure. First, the microstrip-fed circular disc
monopole antenna was designed. Next, the monopole antenna was designed with waveguide and lastly followed by the defected waveguide structure where the uniplanar compact (UC) structure was used. CST Microwave studio software was used for simulation and parametric studies process. Initially, the microstrip-fed circular disc monopole antenna was designed to achieve return loss less than -10dB for wideband frequencies. Then, the gain and directivity was improved with the integration of waveguide. The highest directivity of 11.38dBi found at 13.5GHz. However, low efficiency and narrower bandwidth were obtained. Next, uniplanar compact defected waveguide structure (UC DWS) was designed at inner surface of waveguide. The bandwidth achieved 3.09GHz where it covered from 10.91GHz to 14GHz. Meanwhile, the directivity maintained higher than the monopole antenna with highest directivity of 8.84dBi at 10GHz. The gain was also improved from 11GHz to 14GHz with highest gain of 6.38dB occurred at
13.5GHz.

ABSTRACT In this paper, a quasi-static model for the microstrip monopole antenna is presented. The electrical model is proposed and the procedure for calculation of circuit parameters is explained in details. The proposed model was realized using the Schematic simulator from Microwave Office, and validated by a good comparison to full-wave EM simulation performed in CST Microwave Studio.

ABSTRACT The adaptive antenna arrays are being regarded by many as the key solution to increasing the spectral efficiency and improving the system performance in mobile communications systems. These arrays can track the signal of a particular mobile telephone while suppressing later. interfering signals, by exploiting the Spatial Division Multiple Access (SDMA). Although the implementation of adaptive antennas Is mainly investigated on base stations, It is interesting to evaluate their performance at the mobile level. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the results of propagation measurements carried out at 1.9 GHz. In a CDMA system with Triangle PIFA Antenna Array, not only In the base station, but also in the reception. Different wireless environments such as suburban, indoor and woody were exploited, with line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight(NLOS) scenarios. The analysis, results were based an attenuation prediction and comparisons with signal received by a traditional monopole.

In the given paper, a micro strip line fed monopole antenna consisting single notch of butterfly shaped printed antenna is proposed. The proposed structure has been designed and fabricated on FR-4 dielectric substrate which is one sided copper laminated. The wings of butterfly shaped monopole antenna are formed by adding two rotated ellipse of same radius symmetrically placed about the center of feeding micro strip line. Various technique such as integration of slot in the radiator have introduced in the butterfly structure that allow the filtering characteristic in the UWB antenna without increase in cost and complexity. The antenna is simulated on the HFSS Simulation software.
