DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No.- 33,482, dated October 30, 1900.

To to whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMEs HAY HUTOHISON, a subject of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of London,

5 England, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Type, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.

I have illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawing, in which I have shown a plan view of a complete set of typeupper and lower case and numerals.

The lea-ding or material feature of my de sign consists of the form of characters, which presents to the eye a new and attractive appearance; and my invention relates to the configuration or design of the type-faces, the same being the usual characters that go to make up a font of type.

All the letters are composed of scrolls. The lower ends of the upright portions of such letters as A, F,H, I, K, M, N, P, R, T, and \/V have short horizontal scroll-serifs across them. The cross-bar in A and H and the inclined line in N form a scroll. The tops of A, F, H, I, J, K,

L, N, T, U, V, N, X, Y, and Z have small scroll-serifs. The upright line of D terminates in a scroll-serif, and the curved line overlies this without touching it. The lower inclined line of K is disengaged from the upper inclined line, and its upper end terminates in a small scroll-serif. The lower line of L has an upright scroll at its end. The O has a short horizontal scroll across its center. Across thejoint between the twoinclinedlines of M and W is a short scroll-serif. The X has a horizontalscroll-serif at the right-hand end of each line. The V has a looped scroll at the bottom. The top of Z is a detached scroll.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The design for a font of printing-type, substantially as described and shown.
